Podcasting and blogs have been huge revolutions in recent times. Together, they form a large portion of what we call "new media". A lot of the discussions regarding the area have revolved around serving a "niche audience", the idea being, that in new media, you serve a much smaller demographic than old media-but serve them far better than old media as a result. This is great, if you can find a niche. More and more, that is a big "if", the plain vanilla end of the spectrum was taken up very quickly, and even small niches are slowly being taken. However, we are still not at the stage where blogs and podcasts truly have to compete for listeners, and there are plenty of niches still available. So how do you find your niche? In my opinion, i would start off covering a broad spectrum-e.g. Technology. Then only cover stuff you like, such as the mac and its space, then find out what you like most within that space, e.g.-Mac apps. By starting big, and slowly closing in, it is far easier to find a niche than simply thinking of one.
